Inside Nvidia's org chart: 36 leaders who report to CEO Jensen Huang at the world's most valuable company

Nvidia, the leading force in the tech industry, is driven by a robust leadership team that directly reports to CEO Jensen Huang. As of October, an internal document reveals that Huang has 36 direct reports, a figure that showcases his unique management style compared to other tech giants. Huang's approach to leadership is characterized by a flatter organizational structure, which he believes enhances communication and empowerment within the company. He previously noted in a March 2024 interview at Stanford that he once had as many as 55 direct reports, emphasizing that many of these executives received similar compensation. Among the prominent leaders in his inner circle are Ian Buck, the visionary behind Nvidia's groundbreaking CUDA software, Chief Technology Officer Michael Kagan, and Chief Scientist Bill Dally. During a recent talk at The New York Times DealBook Summit, Huang articulated the benefits of having fewer hierarchical layers, stating, "The more direct reports the CEO has, the less layers are in the company. This fluidity ensures that everyone can access vital information quickly." Nvidia’s rapid growth, largely fueled by the surge in AI technologies, has been influenced by Huang’s relentless work ethic, which cultivates a high-performance culture. However, it remains unclear whether the reduction in direct reports hints at a shift away from the company's previously horizontal structure. In contrast, other tech leaders have different philosophies regarding direct reports. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg prefers a streamlined approach, managing a 'core army' of around 30 executives, while Elon Musk has 19 direct reports at Tesla and five at xAI. Despite the attention surrounding Huang's leadership style, Nvidia has not commented on the specifics of this internal structure. Interestingly, Huang has mentioned that he avoids scheduling one-on-one meetings with his direct reports to promote information sharing, only engaging in such discussions if specifically requested. This strategy reflects his commitment to ensuring that vital information flows freely throughout Nvidia’s expansive organization. This leadership team is pivotal in steering Nvidia’s innovative projects and maintaining its status as a powerhouse in the tech industry.
