A recent leak of over 512,000 lines of source code for Anthropic's Claude Code has provided significant insights into the company's development strategies and future features. This unexpected reveal has sparked interest as developers sift through more than 2,000 files, uncovering a wealth of information about the proprietary Claude model. Among the most intriguing findings is a feature called Kairos, which acts as a persistent daemon capable of functioning in the background, even when the Claude Code terminal is not active. This innovative system employs periodic prompts to assess whether new actions are required and includes a “PROACTIVE” flag designed to alert users about information they may not have explicitly requested but could benefit from now. Kairos utilizes a file-based memory system, enabling it to maintain continuity across user sessions. A hidden prompt linked to the “KAIROS” flag outlines the system's intent to develop a comprehensive understanding of users' preferences, collaboration styles, and contextual information regarding their work. Additionally, the code references an intriguing system named AutoDream, which plays a critical role in organizing and consolidating memory across sessions. When users become inactive or indicate they want to pause the session, AutoDream activates and prompts Claude Code to engage in a “dream” process. This involves reviewing daily transcripts for valuable information to retain, ensuring it eliminates duplicates and contradictions, and updating memories that may have become irrelevant or overly detailed. The overarching ambition of these features is to enhance the AI's ability to synthesize recent learnings into coherent and well-structured memories, thereby streamlining future interactions. This innovative approach aims to ensure that Claude Code can quickly orient itself in subsequent sessions, providing users with a refined and personalized experience.
