In an era dominated by AI-driven low-code tools aimed at non-tech users, Uno Platform is carving a niche for itself by focusing on enterprise developers. Based in Montreal, Uno Platform provides a comprehensive suite of tools designed for creating cross-platform .NET applications that function seamlessly across Android, Apple, Linux, and Windows systems. Developers can write code once, and Uno Platform facilitates the launch of applications across multiple platforms from that single codebase. Francois Tanguay, co-founder and CEO of Uno Platform, highlighted the productivity boost this approach offers. "If you’re coding something once and it works on five different platforms on desktop, web, and mobile, you’re getting 5x the productivity already," he explained in an interview with TechCrunch. While the market is saturated with various app development tools, Tanguay believes that Uno Platform distinguishes itself from competitors in the vibe coding space, such as Lovable and Cursor. Tanguay advocates for the need for enterprise developers to have access to effective productivity tools. "Everything we are shipping hasn’t been done before, and we like that we have a clear roadmap for adding capabilities that will enhance productivity significantly," he stated. The startup’s dedication to addressing the unique needs of enterprise developers has attracted both customers and investors alike. Recently, Uno Platform successfully secured a C$3.5 million (approximately $2.54 million) seed funding round, co-led by AQC Capital and Desjardins Capital. Notable figures, including Scott Hanselman, Microsoft's vice president of developer community, also participated in the funding. This investment will enable Uno to launch its premium tools, including Uno Platform Studio and the innovative "Hot Design" feature, allowing developers to modify a running application’s user interface in real time. Tanguay's vision for Uno Platform is to create a user experience as smooth and supportive as working with a consulting agency, which is how the company initially began. Founded in 2008 as Nventive, the company started as a consulting agency focused on app development during the technology's rise. Over time, Nventive developed the tools that would evolve into Uno Platform, driven by a need for increased efficiency. The launch of Uno Platform as an open-source toolbox in 2018 marked a strategic move to engage with the open-source community, which has been instrumental in adapting the platform to new operating system updates. Tanguay reported, "We have over a hundred million downloads of the platform, something we wouldn’t have achieved alone. It was about betting on the open-source community to propel this initiative and recognizing the value in providing access to a versatile toolbox." Since becoming a standalone entity in 2023, Uno Platform has begun collaborating with major enterprise clients, including Toyota, Microsoft, and TradeZero, marking a significant step in its growth trajectory.
