This capability is part of the Gemini Extensions, which enable the AI assistant to interact not only with WhatsApp but also with other apps like Phone and Messages, as well as third-party applications such as Spotify. Currently available for Android devices, this WhatsApp integration empowers Gemini to draft and edit messages in a conversational manner. To enable this feature, users must follow a few straightforward steps. First, launch the Gemini app on your Android device. Next, tap on your Google account profile icon, navigate to "Settings," and select "Personal Intelligence." From there, go to "Connection Apps" and activate the WhatsApp extension. Just remember, for this to work, Gemini needs to be set as your default assistant on your Android phone. Once activated, Gemini can text, draft, edit, and even make calls through WhatsApp. For example, you might say, "Help me write a congratulations message to [contact name] for their 25th anniversary." If the initial suggestion doesn’t meet your expectations, you can modify it with commands like, "Make it a haiku," or simply request to remove specific parts. When you're satisfied with the message, just prompt, "Send it to [contact name] on WhatsApp." Additionally, Gemini can handle more complex requests, such as, "Check the fastest route from my home to Gurgaon Sector 29 and send the details to [contact] on WhatsApp." In this case, Gemini will pull data from Google Maps, determine the best route, estimate travel time, and format the information for you. For making calls, a simple command like, "I need to talk to [contact name]. Can you call them on WhatsApp?" will do the trick, allowing for a seamless experience right from your device.
