5 iPhone settings Apple doesn’t advertise — but make everyday tasks easier

Apple's iPhones and their iOS updates come packed with clever features that often go unnoticed, significantly enhancing daily usability. Surprisingly, many of these functionalities are not highlighted by the tech giant, leaving users unaware of their device's full potential. From enhanced shortcuts to improved text editing capabilities, these hidden tools can alleviate common frustrations without the need for external applications. Here are five essential features you can activate now to elevate your iPhone experience. One of the most challenging tasks can be positioning the text cursor precisely on a touchscreen. Fortunately, there's a little-known gesture that can transform your keyboard into a precision instrument. By pressing and holding the space bar, your keyboard morphs into a trackpad. While holding it down, you can slide your finger in any direction, allowing for smooth cursor movement across your text. This method is significantly more accurate and effortless compared to the traditional tap-and-drag technique. If the sound of typing bothers you, there's an easy solution that doesn't require muting your entire phone. Simply navigate to Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Keyboard Feedback and switch off the sound while keeping haptic feedback enabled. This way, you'll still receive subtle vibrations as you type, eliminating the annoying clicking sounds. Did you know that your iPhone's Apple logo serves a purpose beyond aesthetics? It can function as a shortcut button. With the Back Tap feature, you can assign quick-access actions to it. Head over to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap, where you can choose either Double Tap or Triple Tap and link it to functions like taking a screenshot, launching the camera, or accessing the Control Center. This surprisingly powerful feature is hidden in plain sight. Most users think of the flashlight as merely an on/off switch, but its brightness can actually be adjusted. To modify its intensity, open Control Center and long-press the flashlight icon. A slider will become available, allowing you to adjust the brightness to anything from a soft glow for reading in bed to full brightness for searching in the dark. Finally, the small red notification badges on app icons can clutter your screen and contribute to digital stress. Luckily, you can disable them on an app-by-app basis. Go to Settings → Notifications, select the desired app, and toggle off Badges. Repeat this for any other apps you wish to declutter. The outcome is a more serene home screen, free from the constant reminder of unfinished tasks. These simple yet impactful features illustrate Apple's commitment to enhancing user experience, even when they don’t draw attention to them. By delving deeper into your Settings, you can unlock a more efficient, quieter, and enjoyable iPhone experience in just seconds.
