iPhone users can now launch ChatGPT voice mode with a single press — here’s how

iPhone 15 Pro and newer users now have an exciting new feature that allows them to access ChatGPT's voice mode with just a single press of the Action button. This recent enhancement from OpenAI's iOS app offers a seamless alternative to Siri, enabling hands-free interactions with a more sophisticated conversational AI tool, as noted by MacRumors. While Siri remains the default assistant tied to the Side button, the Action button on newer iPhones is fully customizable. Users can easily set up ChatGPT to launch immediately, providing a rapid way to engage in spoken dialogue without the hassle of navigating through menus. By configuring the Action button, a simple long press can initiate a real-time conversation with the AI. To set this up, users will first need to grant the app permission to use the microphone. Once this is done, holding the Action button opens ChatGPT's voice interface. A recent update has also integrated voice chats with text conversations in a unified window, allowing responses to be displayed as spoken audio alongside on-screen text and visuals. This cohesive layout enhances the user experience, making it easy to switch between speaking and typing. Furthermore, users can exit the app during a conversation without interruptions; the ongoing chat will transition to the Dynamic Island, indicating that the assistant is actively listening or preparing a reply. To conclude the chat, simply tap the Dynamic Island and select the end option within the app. While the integration of ChatGPT makes it more accessible, it's important to note that it does not fully replace Siri. The AI cannot perform system functions like setting alarms or managing calendar events. Nevertheless, for those looking for a more conversational and contextually aware assistant, customizing the Action button for ChatGPT provides an exceptionally quick shortcut.
