Katie Hill has a vision for her dream home, even if it isn't currently on the market. This aspiration inspired her to launch Unlisted Homes, a finalist in the Top 20 Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025. Hill, a seasoned entrepreneur, dreams of relaxing by the pool in her future home, particularly one that her neighbor might sell. During a casual conversation with her neighbor, who was mowing his lawn, Hill boldly expressed her interest in purchasing his home if he ever decided to sell. This moment of bravery sparked a significant dialogue, leading to an agreement where she would have the first chance to buy the property when it becomes available. "I was relieved at the thought of being contacted before any signs appeared in the yard, scrambling to act," she reflected. Unlisted operates similarly to Zillow but focuses on homes not yet listed for sale. Originally a web-based platform, it has recently expanded to include an iOS app, allowing users to create property profiles using public records from 21 million homes. "We have implemented a waitlist for each property, enabling interested buyers to express their desire for a home directly to the homeowner," Hill explained. Homeowners can enhance their listings with more details and engage with interested buyers on the waitlist. Although Unlisted will not manage real estate transactions directly, it plans to offer sponsorships to real estate agents in specific ZIP codes, positioning them as local experts linked to the homes in their area. Hill envisions connecting homeowners with essential local services, from roofers to electricians. Since launching the waitlist feature in June, Unlisted has accumulated waitlists for 5,700 homes, representing approximately $4 billion in potential real estate transactions. Hill attributes much of her success to the mentorship she has received, including guidance from Kayak co-founder Paul English, who introduced her to experienced professionals who became invaluable to her startup. Founded in 2022, Unlisted has rapidly progressed, with Hill dedicating her nights and weekends to develop the platform alongside one engineer. She has successfully raised nearly $1 million from angel investors and secured an additional $2.25 million last November from HearstLab, which supports early-stage companies led by women. For those interested in exploring more about Unlisted and other innovative startups, the TechCrunch Disrupt event this week in San Francisco promises valuable insights and networking opportunities.
