Off-roading enthusiasts often grapple with a dilemma: the thrill of exploring nature clashes with the environmental damage caused during these adventures. Traditional off-roading leaves behind a trail of pollution and noise that can mar the beauty of the great outdoors. Enter the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, which, while not a complete solution, significantly mitigates these issues. Among the most impressive entries into this space is the Stark Varg EX, a remarkable all-terrain motorcycle that promises to redefine off-road experiences. Weighing in at a mere 264 pounds (120 kg), the Stark Varg EX is a powerhouse that boasts torque exceeding that of a Porsche 911 GT3. This compact beast is engineered to tackle a wide array of terrains, making it a formidable contender for any off-roading challenge while remaining street-legal. Although it’s an impressive machine, it still has some hurdles to overcome before reaching its full potential. Stark Future, founded in 2020, has introduced the Varg EX as its flagship motorcycle, with 'Varg' translating to 'wolf' in Swedish. This new model builds on the legacy of the Varg MX, which has already made waves in motocross and enduro racing, clinching titles such as the British Arenacross Championship. While the Varg MX was crafted solely for off-road competition, the Varg EX incorporates practical features for on-road use, alongside several enhancements over its predecessor. At the heart of the Varg EX is a robust 7.2 kWh battery pack paired with a compact yet powerful permanent-magnet electric motor. This motor, about the size of a soda can, generates an impressive 80 horsepower (60 kW) and a staggering 692 lb-ft (938 Nm) of torque. The motorcycles are assembled at Stark's facility in Barcelona, Spain, where the team meticulously puts together the battery packs and the bikes they power. While much of the Varg EX is built using traditional methods, Stark is also pushing the boundaries of manufacturing with innovative techniques such as titanium laser sintering. This 3D printing technology is employed to create the bike's intricately designed footpegs, offering a robust and reliable platform for riders as they embark on thrilling adventures.
