Collins, who had only been with Unity for six months, previously held the same position at King, the company known for its popular game Candy Crush. The decision to leave was made by Collins for personal reasons, according to the company. 'We can confirm that Steve Collins has decided to leave Unity for personal reasons,' stated the spokesperson. 'We appreciate his contributions and remain confident that our exceptional tech team will continue to advance our strategy during this transformative period.' Unity has been experiencing significant internal challenges over the past few years. In late 2023, the company introduced a controversial pricing model that sparked outrage among developers, leading to a partial reversal of those changes. This turmoil contributed to the resignation of CEO John Riccitiello and the layoff of 25% of Unity's workforce, equating to approximately 1,800 jobs. While the company seems to be moving past these issues, some developers continue to express skepticism towards Unity. Although Collins’ exit isn't directly linked to these ongoing challenges, any further changes in leadership could potentially create additional instability.
