Ultrahuman bets on redesigned smart ring to win back U.S. market after Oura dispute

Ultrahuman has introduced its latest innovation, the Ring Pro, designed to rejuvenate its presence in the U.S. market after encountering significant setbacks from a patent dispute with competitor Oura. This third-generation smart ring boasts an impressive battery life of up to 15 days, a notable improvement compared to the 4 to 6 days offered by its predecessor, the Ring Air, which was priced at $479. While pre-orders for the Ring Pro will be accepted globally, the U.S. will be excluded from this initial rollout, with shipments expected to commence in March. The patent conflict escalated in October 2025, when the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled in favor of Oura, prohibiting Ultrahuman from bringing new ring inventory into the country. Despite this setback, existing stock remained available for purchase. The impact of this ruling was profound, as the U.S. accounted for approximately 45% of Ultrahuman’s 700,000 daily active users worldwide, according to the company’s co-founder and CEO, Mohit Kumar. In a bid to counter Oura's patent claims, Ultrahuman filed a separate infringement case against Oura in the Delhi High Court in August 2025, which is still pending. Kumar shared insights with TechCrunch about the innovative design of the Ring Pro, which has been submitted for clearance by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to ensure it can be legally imported. Despite the challenges in the U.S. market, Ultrahuman has managed to achieve an annual revenue run rate of around $150 million, reporting $64 million in revenue for the financial year ending March 2025. Although the company remains profitable, Kumar noted that litigation costs and tariffs might compress profit margins moving forward. In addition to the Ring Pro, Ultrahuman unveiled Jade, a cutting-edge biointelligence system that processes health data in real-time to deliver personalized recommendations. Kumar emphasized that unlike most existing AI tools that analyze historical data, Jade offers immediate, actionable insights on health behaviors. The Ring Pro also features advanced heart-rate sensing technology, a dual-core processor for improved data accuracy, and the capacity to store up to 250 days of health information. Weighing slightly more than the Ring Air, which launched in July 2023 at $349, this new device is complemented by a Pro Charger that supports wireless charging and can last up to 45 days. Women now represent about 68% of Ultrahuman's user base, a rise from 65% the previous year, signaling a growing interest in the company's health solutions tailored for women. Additionally, Ultrahuman continues to offer subscription services that contribute about 16% of its revenue, including programs for coaching and metabolic health monitoring. The company identifies its key growth markets as the UK, Canada, Australia, and India, with India generating approximately 8% to 9% of overall revenue following investments in customer support. Global shipments of smart rings surged nearly 80% year-over-year in 2025, highlighting the rising demand for compact wearables that excel in sleep tracking and battery longevity. Oura currently leads the market, while Ultrahuman holds a strong second position. Industry analysts predict that future leaders in this segment will be distinguished by their sensor accuracy, AI capabilities, and the ability to integrate seamlessly into user ecosystems. Founded in 2019, Ultrahuman has attracted about $55 million in funding from notable investors including Alpha Wave Incubation and Blume Ventures. Looking ahead, Kumar revealed plans to enhance production capacity to meet the anticipated demand for the Ring Pro in the coming months.
