UK may ban social media for children under 16

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is poised to unveil a significant policy aimed at restricting social media access for children under the age of 16. This proposed ban mirrors measures taken by Australia, which has already prohibited platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, X, Threads, Snapchat, Twitch, and Kick for younger users. While the U.K. may not impose an outright ban on gaming applications, it intends to enforce regulations that would require these apps to disable features like private messaging for minors. The initiative aims to restrict users under 18 from engaging with romantic and sexual chatbots, as well as to curb late-night social media usage.
