Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake targeting January 2026 release: Report

Ubisoft is reportedly aiming for a January 2026 release for its much-anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This timeline, as outlined in a recent report by Gamerant, positions the game to debut during a quieter period in the gaming calendar, which could help it achieve early success. Initially revealed in 2020, the remake of the beloved 2003 title was first developed by Ubisoft's studios in Mumbai and Pune. However, following a backlash regarding its visuals after the first trailer was released, the project transitioned to Ubisoft Montreal in 2022. Since then, the company has offered minimal updates regarding the game’s progress, with the only glimpse being a brief candle flicker in last year’s marketing efforts. In its May 2025 earnings briefing, Ubisoft reassured fans that the remake is still on track for release within the current fiscal year, which concludes in March 2026. Their latest earnings report, which was delayed slightly, has provided further insight into the company's release schedule. Alongside the anticipated December 19 arrival of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – From the Ashes, Ubisoft is set to launch several titles in the last quarter of its 2025-2026 fiscal year. As reported by Eurogamer, this lineup may include Rainbow Six Mobile, The Division Resurgence, an unannounced title speculated to be the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake, and the Prince of Persia remake itself. If everything goes according to plan, fans can expect the game to hit the market sometime between January 1 and March 31, 2026. This represents the closest estimate to a definitive release date since the project's inception five years ago. Despite the narrowing timeline, there has been no new gameplay footage released since the development was handed over to Montreal. As the Game Awards approach in December, speculation is rife that Ubisoft might be preparing a significant reveal for the event. After years of anticipation and uncertainty, fans are eager for more than just a symbolic candle and are hoping for a substantial glimpse into the highly awaited return to the world of Persia.
