Uber has officially launched its first integration with Indian Railways, introducing services at two of India's busiest railway stations: Ahmedabad and Howrah. This strategic move aims to streamline passenger travel by directly connecting Uber’s ride-hailing services with essential public transportation infrastructure. Ahmedabad Railway Station, the seventh largest in the country, currently accommodates around 120,000 passengers each day, with expectations of increasing to over 300,000 by 2053. Meanwhile, Howrah Railway Station, the largest in India, sees a staggering daily footfall of more than 1 million passengers, making it a critical transit point in Eastern India. As part of this integration, Uber has established a dedicated parking area on an elevated section that connects directly to Ahmedabad's main foot-over bridge. In Howrah, the company has set up designated kiosks and infrastructure to manage the heavy influx of travelers. Additionally, both stations will have on-ground teams available to assist passengers, ensuring efficient pickups and drop-offs. Shiva Shailendran, the Director of Consumer Growth & Categories at Uber India and South Asia, remarked, “Our collaboration with Indian Railways at these key stations marks a significant advancement in enhancing urban mobility. We are committed to ensuring reliable connectivity for millions of travelers. By merging Uber’s technology with vital public transport hubs, we aim to create a seamless, multimodal transportation system that simplifies city travel.” This partnership not only promises hassle-free connectivity for passengers but also presents new earning opportunities for drivers, who can expect increased demand for rides from these high-traffic areas.
