Uber, the renowned ride-hailing service, is embarking on a significant journey by establishing its inaugural data center in India in collaboration with the Adani Group. This move signifies a substantial enhancement of Uber's technological framework within the country, aligning with the surge in global investments in India's AI and cloud sectors. The announcement was made by Uber's Chief Executive Officer, Dara Khosrowshahi, on May 13, following his meeting with Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad. Khosrowshahi expressed enthusiasm on social media, stating, "As India quickly becomes a central hub for innovation at Uber, we are excited to set up our first data center here with the Adani Group to pilot and implement our technology." Anticipated to be operational later this year, the new facility will bolster Uber's global tech operations and support product rollouts from India. This announcement coincides with Khosrowshahi's visit to India, where he has been engaging with senior government officials and industry leaders to explore Uber's long-term investment strategies in the region. The collaboration with Uber complements the Adani Group's aggressive expansion into AI and digital infrastructure. Notably, in October 2025, Adani Enterprises, through its subsidiary AdaniConneX, entered into a partnership with Google to create a large AI-centric data center and clean energy ecosystem in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This hub is projected to draw approximately $15 billion in investments from 2026 to 2030, with ambitious plans for gigawatt-scale AI data center capacity and renewable energy solutions tailored for advanced AI operations. Uber's initiative to establish a data center in India is part of a broader trend, as global tech companies increasingly focus on enhancing India's AI, cloud, and digital infrastructure. This expansion is driven by the rising demand for localized computing resources and a growing emphasis on data sovereignty.
