Uber has officially confirmed its intention to acquire Delivery Hero in a monumental deal valued at $14.8 billion. This strategic move is expected to significantly enhance Uber's presence in nearly 100 markets across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia. In addition to the acquisition, Delivery Hero has struck a separate agreement to divest its operations in 14 markets where Uber Eats is already established, selling to New York-based investment firm SSW Partners for $1.6 billion. While the acquisition marks a major step for Uber, it is not yet finalized and will undergo regulatory scrutiny. As the largest shareholder of Delivery Hero, Uber has set a minimum acceptance threshold requiring 50% plus one share of the company's outstanding capital for the deal to proceed. Prosus, another key stakeholder, has also agreed to sell its 17% stake in the company. If successfully completed, this acquisition will nearly double Uber's market footprint, positioning the company to better compete with industry rivals like DoorDash and Just Eat. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the benefits of the merger, stating, “Together, we’ll nearly double the number of markets where we offer both mobility and delivery services, scaling a proven platform that we believe will create significant long-term value for our customers and shareholders.”
