In a bold move to transform its platform, Uber has announced a series of innovative products aimed at redefining the travel experience during its annual Go-Get event in New York. The ride-hailing giant is making significant strides beyond its core ridesharing services, venturing into hotel bookings and shopping to establish itself as a comprehensive super app. During the showcase, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized Uber's ambition to simplify travel for busy consumers, stating, "Uber is already the go-to platform for global travel. If we're the first app that you open when you get into your city, it’s only natural for us to try to make the entire trip, the entire experience, simpler." One of the standout announcements is Uber's partnership with Expedia Group, which will allow U.S. users to book from over 700,000 hotel options directly through the Uber app. Additionally, plans are in place to integrate home rentals via Vrbo later this year. With a new hotel icon on the app, users can easily filter accommodations based on price, ratings, and amenities, while Uber One members enjoy exclusive discounts. Stepping into the realm of artificial intelligence, Uber is introducing a voice booking chatbot that enables users to reserve rides through spoken commands. This new tool, powered by OpenAI models, illustrates Uber's commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technology into its services. The company noted, "At Uber, we use a whole range of AI tools from leading providers as well as our own AI stack — from core engineering to AI-powered products." In addition to enhancing ride bookings, Uber is launching a shopping feature that allows users to engage personal shoppers for items not listed on the app. This capability extends the company’s reach into retail, offering a convenient solution for consumers. Moreover, Uber is improving the travel experience with new features for Uber One members, such as earning ride credits and waiving delivery fees while abroad. The app will also highlight points of interest and tourist attractions to enrich travelers' experiences. In a creative twist, users booking Uber Black or Black SUV rides can now add items from Uber Eats, including coffee, for their drivers to collect on the way to their destination. With these ambitious plans, Uber is set to enhance its service offerings, positioning itself as a leader in the evolving landscape of travel and technology.
