Trump admin tries again to revive dying coal industry

Trump proclaimed, "Today we’re taking historic action to bring down the price of energy and the cost of living for all Americans with the power of clean, beautiful coal." However, this assertion comes at a time when coal ranks as one of the most expensive methods of electricity generation in the United States. With the costs of wind and solar energy continuing to decline, coal has now become the second-priciest source of electricity, surpassed only by the expenses associated with constructing new nuclear facilities. The impact of this shift is evident, as no new coal plants have been built in over a decade. Once responsible for powering more than half of the electrical grid, coal now contributes to merely 15 percent of the nation's electricity supply. Moreover, when factoring in the indirect costs associated with coal usage, the environmental toll becomes even more significant.
