AI makes banking “better, safer and more secure": US President Donald Trump

In a recent interview, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the banking sector, emphasizing both its potential benefits and associated risks. While he acknowledged the necessity for governmental regulations to mitigate any dangers posed by AI, he also pointed out how this technology could enhance banking operations, making them more secure and efficient. When questioned about the trustworthiness of AI in banking, Trump expressed a cautiously optimistic view, stating, 'Yeah, probably.' He elaborated that AI could be pivotal in transforming the banking system for the better, ensuring higher safety and security standards. However, Trump also highlighted the importance of having mechanisms in place for the government to control or deactivate AI technologies if they pose risks or are misused. This comment arises amid increasing scrutiny surrounding Anthropic’s new cybersecurity model, 'Claude Mythos,' which is designed to identify cyber threats and vulnerabilities in essential software systems. Despite its promising capabilities, concerns linger regarding its potential to disrupt the very systems it aims to protect. Anthropic has released a preview of Mythos to select companies through Project Glasswing, stating that further testing is needed before public availability. The company is reportedly in discussions with the Trump administration to ensure that advanced AI models like Mythos are properly understood and regulated. Competing with Anthropic, OpenAI has also announced its launch of the GPT 5.4 Cyber model, specifically crafted for cybersecurity purposes. This new model aims to assist security professionals in identifying vulnerabilities, analyzing threats, and developing more robust defense mechanisms against cyberattacks.
