In a bold new venture, the Trump family has introduced a telecommunications brand featuring Trump Mobile and the T1 smartphone, described as 'proudly designed and built in the United States.' This initiative is supported by Liberty Mobile, a relatively obscure mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that utilizes T-Mobile’s infrastructure. The only plan available, called The 47 Plan, is priced at $47.45 per month and promises unlimited calls, texts, and data. Additionally, it offers benefits such as roadside assistance and around-the-clock telehealth services. While the network is expected to provide coverage similar to other T-Mobile-based MVNOs like Mint Mobile and US Mobile, it comes at a significantly higher cost. The T1 smartphone is being offered at $499 and is currently open for pre-orders with a required deposit of $100. The phone is slated for shipment by August or September 2025, according to information from the Trump Mobile website and press release. Marketed as 'a sleek, gold smartphone engineered for performance,' the T1 has raised eyebrows due to its marketing materials, which appear to be digitally enhanced. The design features a brushed gold finish adorned with the US flag and the 'T1' logo. However, the specifications have led to skepticism among potential buyers. The device is said to run on Android 15 and boasts a 6.78-inch 120Hz OLED display, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of expandable storage, complemented by a robust 5,000mAh battery. Unique for modern smartphones, it also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack. Nonetheless, the promotional content is rife with errors. For instance, it incorrectly refers to RAM as storage and features a confusing description of a '5000mAh long life camera.' The camera setup includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor alongside 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors, but notably lacks an ultrawide lens. Details regarding the chipset remain undisclosed. Donald Trump Jr., Executive Vice President of The Trump Organization, stated, 'Trump Mobile is going to change the game. We’re building on the movement to put America first, and we will deliver the highest levels of quality and service. Our company is based right here in the United States because we know it’s what our customers want and deserve.' This launch coincides with a growing trend of celebrities entering the telecommunications market. While Ryan Reynolds stepped back from the sector after selling Mint Mobile to T-Mobile in 2023, a new MVNO called SmartLess Mobile, created by actors Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes, just debuted last week.
