In a recent interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump announced that a consortium of 'very wealthy individuals' is poised to acquire the popular short-form video platform, TikTok. 'We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way,' Trump stated, indicating that the deal would likely require approval from China. He expressed confidence in receiving the necessary endorsement from President Xi Jinping. While Trump refrained from disclosing specific details about the prospective buyers, he promised to unveil their identities in two weeks, a timeframe he seems to favor. This revelation comes as Trump has continued to postpone the implementation of legislation that would force TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to either sell the app or face a ban in the United States. Back in January, Trump suggested his 'initial thought' was to establish a joint venture involving the current owners and potential new investors, aiming for a 50% ownership stake for the U.S. He also mentioned that prominent figures like Larry Ellison and Elon Musk could be interested in the acquisition, although Musk's involvement appears increasingly unlikely as the situation evolves.
