SpaceX may donate stock to Trump’s savings accounts for kids, report says

In a unique approach to promote children's savings, Donald Trump is set to unveil a new initiative called Trump Accounts this July 4th. This program aims to establish savings accounts for children, and reports suggest that SpaceX may play a significant role by potentially donating stock to these accounts. Sources familiar with discussions involving the Trump administration revealed that SpaceX has engaged with U.S. officials regarding a donation. However, the specifics about the donation's feasibility and its potential effects on the accounts remain uncertain. Trump is positioning these accounts as a cornerstone of his legacy, with 6 million children already registered ahead of the official launch. Trump Accounts are designed as a novel type of individual retirement account accessible to any child under the age of 18 with a Social Security number. Parents can register their children via the dedicated Trump Accounts app, which is currently available for download. Additionally, children born between 2025 and 2028 may benefit from a one-time $1,000 government contribution. Although Trump Accounts come with stricter regulations compared to traditional IRAs, the administration has touted this initiative as a groundbreaking policy for American families. Families can contribute up to $5,000 annually, with funds automatically invested in U.S. companies identified as “proven winners.” The app provides transparency, allowing parents to track stock ownership and performance. Notably, there have already been contributions to these accounts, including a substantial $6.25 billion donation from billionaire Michael Dell and his wife, Susan. Furthermore, companies like BlackRock and Bank of America have pledged to match employee contributions, underscoring a growing interest in supporting this initiative.
