Truecaller introduces Family Protection feature to combat phone scams

Truecaller has unveiled an innovative feature designed to enhance safety for families against phone scams. Dubbed Family Protection, this new tool allows users to form a trusted family group with up to five members within the app, enabling them to collectively respond to suspicious calls and potential fraud attempts. In this setup, one family member will take on the role of administrator, overseeing essential functions like managing block lists and scam alerts. The Family Protection feature is available for both iOS and Android users, although Android users will benefit from additional functionalities through enhanced admin controls. For the feature to work seamlessly, all participating family members must have the Truecaller app installed. Once set up, users can create a dedicated family group equipped with shared resources to fend off scams. Each group will have a designated Family Admin, who can adjust protection levels, manage blocklists, and utilize remote support tools when necessary. Android users will enjoy real-time scam protection tools, allowing the admin to take immediate action against scam call alerts while also monitoring battery levels, phone activity, and availability. Truecaller emphasizes that the Family Protection feature is completely free, aiming to reduce the incidence of scams within families and improve communication safety. In a recent newsletter, Truecaller highlighted that Family Protection is a significant milestone in its product evolution, marking a shift from mere call identification to a comprehensive approach to communication safety. Currently, the feature is being rolled out in select regions, including Chile, Kenya, Malaysia, and Sweden, with plans for a broader expansion, including India, expected by the first quarter of 2026.
