In an era where technology is continuously evolving, one AI product manager in China is taking a bold step towards enhancing productivity through AI. Vivi Mengjie Xiao, who also creates content for RedNote, has shared her journey of developing six AI agents to streamline her professional and personal tasks. Initially tasked by her CEO to explore innovative applications of AI beyond mere cost reduction, Xiao found herself grappling with the overwhelming amount of information in the AI sector. She spent nearly four hours daily sifting through industry news and translating content from English to Chinese. This led her to a pivotal question: "Can I automate this?" Driven by the desire to eliminate repetitive tasks, Xiao's journey began with the creation of her first AI agent, affectionately dubbed a "lobster." However, her first attempt at consolidating multiple responsibilities into a single agent quickly became chaotic. The agent struggled to maintain focus, juggling various tasks like managing her calendar and finances simultaneously. To combat this, Xiao restructured her approach by creating specialized agents, resulting in six distinct AI employees categorized into work and personal roles. Among her work agents, she has an administrative assistant, a researcher, and a chief of staff, the latter of which mimics her boss's communication style for practice. On the personal front, she developed a life coach, a content assistant, and a finance manager, each contributing to a more organized workflow. The interconnectedness of these agents has proven to be a game changer. For example, her life coach can access insights from the other agents, enabling her to automate around 70% of her journaling. With these AI systems handling a significant portion of her daily tasks—including research and content distribution—Xiao has noticed a remarkable increase in productivity. Despite these advancements, she admits that her work hours have not shortened. Instead, she has moved away from mundane tasks to focus on more strategic and creative endeavors, leading to longer nights and an ever-expanding workload. This paradox has prompted Xiao to reflect on the evolving nature of work in the age of AI, suggesting that as efficiency increases, so does the volume of tasks at hand. The shift towards automation and AI in the workplace isn't about replacing human roles; rather, it's about enhancing human potential. Xiao believes that while AI may handle execution tasks, the essence of work—creativity, judgment, and emotional intelligence—remains uniquely human. Her experience illustrates the transformative power of AI, likening it to evolving from a freelancer to a CEO of a small firm, where her AI team is always available to assist. In a world where the future of work is becoming increasingly defined by AI capabilities, Xiao's story serves as an inspiring example of how technology can expand our horizons and redefine what it means to be productive.
