In a bold move to enhance the way users consume information, three former developers of Google's innovative note-taking tool, NotebookLM, have unveiled their new audio-centric application named Huxe. This groundbreaking app is designed to assist users in delving into topics through the generation of engaging audio content, enabling them to access summaries and insights similar to podcasts. Launched recently after an invite-only phase in June, Huxe has already made waves in the tech community, securing $4.6 million in funding from notable investors including Conviction, Genius Ventures, and Google Research’s chief scientist, Jeff Dean. The founders, Raiza Martin, Jason Spielman, and Stephen Hughes, departed from Google in December 2024, driven by their ambition to explore new concepts. Initially, the team focused on creating a chatbot aimed at business applications but quickly pivoted towards consumer needs. By March 2025, they had developed a personal assistant capable of generating tailored images, videos, and audio. "We discovered that users appreciated the ability to generate audio content across various topics, particularly during their daily routines when catching up on news or preparing for the day," Martin shared with TechCrunch. Huxe stands out by providing users with daily briefings curated from their emails and calendars, allowing for a seamless integration of personal schedules and information consumption. This app not only enables users to explore various topics but also generates podcasts where AI hosts engage in discussions. Users have the flexibility to interact with these hosts, posing questions or asking for explanations in a different format. An exciting feature of Huxe is the ability to create a personalized "live station" on any topic of interest, ranging from technology updates to sports and even celebrity news. After tuning into a station, users receive regular updates by sourcing information from diverse channels, making it an invaluable tool for staying informed. The app is tailored for individuals who frequently juggle multiple tasks on their devices, allowing them to catch up on emails, schedules, and current events without being glued to their screens. According to Martin, early adopters are providing feedback reminiscent of the early days of NotebookLM, indicating a strong interest in the product. While Huxe is primarily focused on information consumption, there are also potential avenues for entertainment content, as seen with other audio-centric platforms like Pocket FM and Kuku FM. As Huxe navigates this space, it joins a growing trend among startups, including ElevenLabs and Oboe, that are harnessing audio technology to enhance user engagement.
