India AI Impact Summit 2026: Production-ready voice AI, not flashy demos, will define winners, says Gnani.ai CEO Ganesh Gopalan

At the forefront of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Ganesh Gopalan, CEO of Gnani.ai, emphasized the shift towards practical applications of voice-based artificial intelligence, highlighting the increasing need for production-ready systems in sectors such as commerce and finance. During an interview with Business Today, Gopalan stressed that the true measure of success lies not in impressive demonstrations, but in the performance of these systems in real-world scenarios. Gopalan pointed out that challenges such as latency, cost, and reliability are critical in distinguishing between functional products and experimental technologies. "It's not about what you can show in a demo; it’s about what actually works at scale," he stated, cautioning that many systems that look promising in presentations often falter in operational settings. The launch of Inya VoiceOS, a powerful voice-to-voice model backed by the IndiaAI Mission, marks a significant step for Gnani.ai, yet Gopalan highlighted that the key to success will hinge on enterprise adoption rather than just the size of the model. The Bengaluru-based startup is working on innovative voice-driven commerce solutions aimed at revolutionizing consumer interactions with digital platforms. For instance, trials with a leading e-commerce firm are underway to allow users to search and purchase items through conversational voice commands. Gopalan envisions a future where voice AI transcends traditional customer service roles, enhancing core business processes. Currently, Gnani.ai supports over 200 enterprise customers, rapidly expanding its client base, particularly in the banking and finance sectors where demand for voice technology is surging. Despite the enthusiasm for large models, Gopalan stressed that technical challenges such as latency and operational costs must be addressed. He noted that while some companies manage to create functioning demos, they often struggle to scale those solutions effectively. Gnani.ai claims to maintain high efficiency on advanced GPUs, which helps reduce operating costs and supports large-scale deployment. With over 1,000 graphics processing units utilized at peak performance, Gopalan mentioned that government support has been instrumental for their growth. However, he cautioned against focusing solely on GPU numbers, emphasizing that the true measure of success will be based on performance outcomes. Gopalan also discussed the role of voice AI in enhancing workforce capabilities rather than replacing jobs. By providing real-time knowledge assistance and training opportunities through simulated voice interactions, these technologies are set to aid sectors facing challenges such as high employee turnover. As concerns over voice cloning and AI-generated fraud increase, Gopalan reiterated that Gnani.ai is committed to embedding robust safeguards within their systems. The company does not utilize private or identifiable data for training and has established strict governance measures to ensure security. Looking ahead, Gopalan predicts that voice interfaces will dominate human-machine interactions, stating, "This is the year of voice." He hinted at ongoing discussions with investors for potential funding, underscoring the urgency of engineering execution as companies strive for leadership in this rapidly evolving landscape.
