I vibe coded an AI caregiving system for my aging parents. Now I'm building a startup to share the tech with others.

In a remarkable turn of events, Srdjan Stakic, a former film producer, has harnessed the power of artificial intelligence to create a caregiving system designed for elderly individuals. This innovation was born out of necessity when Stakic's mother was hospitalized, prompting him to find ways to monitor and assist his aging parents more effectively. Stakic's journey with AI began two years ago during his own battle with stage four cancer. Faced with overwhelming medical jargon and rapid changes in his health, he turned to AI to help him document and understand his experiences. Now in remission, he found himself caring for his parents, who faced their own health challenges and language barriers when communicating with healthcare providers. Determined to create a system that could not only assist his parents but also ensure their safety and dignity, Stakic sought to develop a comprehensive solution. He utilized technologies like Gemini and ChatGPT to outline his vision, focusing on how his parents wanted to be treated in various scenarios. With no coding experience, he collaborated with Lovable, a platform that allowed him to visualize and iterate on his ideas in real-time. As he built the system, Stakic uploaded extensive training materials for healthcare professionals to help the AI learn. He implemented a validation pipeline to ensure the AI's accuracy, using established clinical benchmarks to guide its development. The system now includes cameras capable of detecting falls and notifying family members or emergency services with health summaries. A unique feature of the system is its ability to analyze caregiver interactions, identifying unprofessional behavior through audio and video analysis. This approach not only enhances the safety of his parents but also provides insights into caregiver conduct. Stakic has ensured that privacy remains a priority, allowing for video review only when concerns arise. What began as a personal project has grown into a startup named Alvis, which is currently in private beta and accepting applications for its pilot program launching on April 13. The subscription-based model mirrors existing camera cloud storage services, with an option for advanced AI analytics. Stakic's commitment to empowering families through technology reflects a growing trend of democratizing access to AI tools, allowing niche solutions to emerge for those in need. Stakic's story illustrates the transformative potential of AI in caregiving, showcasing how innovation driven by personal experience can lead to meaningful advancements for others facing similar challenges.
