After nearly 14 years at Wells Fargo, where he sold payment infrastructure strategies to Fortune 500 firms, Vram Ismaliyan found himself frustrated by the bank's outdated technology. He recalled spending five to ten hours preparing for client meetings, navigating through multiple systems to gather and organize information. "I had to work through 10 or 15 different systems to gather information, make sense of it, and then put it into a PowerPoint," he shared. His colleague, Kevin Miyamoto, faced similar challenges. Despite overseeing $900 billion in annual client payments, he relied on Excel spreadsheets rather than a comprehensive CRM to manage his accounts. This dissatisfaction with inefficient technology led Ismaliyan and Miyamoto to join forces in 2021 to create Identifee, a platform tailored for commercial bankers that consolidates the tools they need into one cohesive system. Identifee has made a significant impact, earning a spot as a Top 20 finalist in the Startup Battlefield competition at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025. With firsthand experience of the tech hurdles at one of the largest banks in the country, Ismaliyan and Miyamoto recognized that smaller financial institutions often face even greater challenges. "If you want to pull any information on your customer, you might have to log in to 10 separate systems, download the data that’s all different into Excel, to then start to do analysis," Miyamoto explained. "It takes forever." The platform aims to enhance banker productivity by unifying various system functionalities into a single interface. Identifee offers modular systems that clients can choose to implement individually or as a comprehensive suite. These modules include a CRM, a business intelligence tool for customer data analysis, and a sales enablement feature for report generation. Miyamoto highlighted the convenience of Identifee, stating, "If you’re a community bank, you could do what Identifee does, but you’d have to get Salesforce, Seismic, Power BI, and Tableau. Or you could use our tool, which has all those things, but in one easy platform." Notably, some of Identifee's features incorporate artificial intelligence. For example, an AI agent assists users in completing request for proposal (RFP) forms, ensuring compliance with each bank’s policies. The team asserts that Identifee is uniquely designed for commercial banks and credit unions, a U.S. market segment encompassing over 8,800 institutions. Identifee has quickly gained traction, securing over 170 clients, including notable names like Silicon Valley Bank, First Fidelity Bank, and Comerica. The startup has successfully raised around $5 million in seed funding from investors such as Ocean Azul Partners, 10X Capital, and Gaingels. When questioned about the lack of competition in addressing commercial banking tech inefficiencies, Miyamoto remarked, "There are tons of people familiar with [this problem], but those people don’t start companies like Vram and I did." For those interested in learning more about Identifee and witnessing various other startups pitch their innovations, the TechCrunch Disrupt event is set to take place from October 27 to 29 in San Francisco.
