Apple’s Photos app is getting new AI editing features

At the recent WWDC 2026 event, Apple unveiled exciting advancements for its Photos app, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence. Among the standout features is the innovative spatial 'Reframe' tool, designed to help users recompose images effortlessly. This new capability allows individuals to adjust photos as if they had repositioned their camera at the time of the shot. For example, if a picture inadvertently captures a sign hovering over a person's head or misses the perfect moment for eye contact, the Reframe tool can rectify these issues. Users can simply drag and touch their photos to modify the perspective, with real-time previews enhancing the editing experience. As adjustments are made, a subtle blur outlines the original image's edges, which is later filled in by Apple's generative models to maintain the scene's integrity. Additionally, the 'Extend' feature broadens images, offering more space around subjects or correcting tilted horizons without cropping away critical elements. Users can zoom out or adjust their crop to enrich the scene further. Furthermore, the app's widely used 'Cleanup' tool is receiving enhancements, allowing for the removal of unwanted distractions with greater realism and quality, aided by generative AI. This feature enables users to effortlessly tap, brush, or circle areas they wish to eliminate, making photo editing more intuitive than ever.
