A devastating incident unfolded in Texas on Friday, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old woman when a Tesla Model 3, operated by Michael Butler, lost control and crashed into her family's residence. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Butler was using the vehicle's automated driving assistance system at the time of the accident. Investigators are currently examining the role of the Autopilot feature in the crash, although authorities have confirmed that Butler was not under the influence of alcohol and is cooperating with the investigation. Reports indicate that the vehicle veered off the road and struck the home at a dangerously high speed. The moment of impact was captured by a doorbell camera, which revealed the Tesla forcefully crashing into the brick structure. Images released by the Office of Constable Terry Allbritton depicted the extensive damage to the home. Martha Avila was inside the house when the crash occurred, sharing the space with her daughter, son-in-law, and three young grandchildren. Her daughter, Jennifer Barbour, stated that no other family members sustained injuries. The family is heartbroken over the loss, with Barbour expressing disbelief at her mother’s sudden passing despite being in good health. She had anticipated her mother might live to a ripe old age, as her grandmother did, and feels that Avila was unjustly deprived of precious moments with her grandchildren. Currently, the family is grappling with their grief while residing in a hotel, anxiously awaiting clarity on whether the fault lies with the driver or the vehicle itself. "I don’t know if it’s his fault or the car’s fault or what really happened," Barbour lamented. "I’ve never seen a car go that fast."
