As Christmas Eve approaches, young children are likely to ask, "Where's Santa right now?" Thanks to popular tracking tools like the NORAD Santa Tracker and Google’s Santa Tracker, families can eagerly anticipate the arrival of Father Christmas. This year, exciting new AI features are set to enhance the holiday magic. NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) pioneered the Santa tracking tradition back in 1955. Originally a simple animation of Santa’s sleigh flying across a map, the NORAD Santa Tracker has evolved dramatically. Now, it boasts a plethora of engaging features, including mini-games, festive videos, storytelling, and Christmas music. This year, NORAD has partnered with OpenAI to introduce innovative AI capabilities. These include an image generator that transforms selfies into animated elf characters, a tool for creating toy ideas that can be turned into printable coloring pages, and a fill-in-the-blank storytelling feature that encourages families to craft personalized holiday tales. The updated NORAD Santa Tracker now offers a mesmerizing 3D visual representation of Santa's route, utilizing Cesium’s open-source 3D mapping technology coupled with Bing Maps satellite imagery for a more lifelike globe. Users can also access a live “Santa Cam,” providing real-time videos of Santa delivering presents to children on the nice list. The NORAD website features Santa’s North Pole Village, complete with a holiday countdown, arcade games, kid-friendly music, and a library of videos available on NORAD’s YouTube channel. Families can track Santa by visiting noradsanta.org or by downloading the official NORAD Tracks Santa app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The platform is accessible in multiple languages, including English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Japanese, German, Italian, and Portuguese. Additionally, users can follow Santa's journey through NORAD's social media channels or call 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6732) for personalized updates from a volunteer. Google's Santa Tracker, which launched in 2004, offers a different yet equally engaging experience. Featuring a live map of Santa's current location, his upcoming stops, and a feed of his journey, the platform also tracks the total distance traveled and the number of gifts delivered. Throughout December, the site transforms into Santa’s Village, where users can engage in mini-games, quizzes, animated videos, and other interactive activities. Notable features include the “Elf Maker” game, where players can create their own elves, and “Elf Jamband,” a concert-hosting game. Children can even learn coding through fun tutorials like “Code Boogie.” Adding to the experience, Google Assistant can provide real-time updates on Santa’s whereabouts. Users can simply ask, “Hey Google, where’s Santa?” or tune into the North Pole Newscast for the latest news from Santa and his elves. This holiday season, tracking Santa has never been more interactive and fun, thanks to these cutting-edge AI tools.
