Tinder is now making new users in India do this one thing before they can match

Tinder has implemented a new feature called Face Check, designed to bolster user safety and eliminate fake profiles on its platform. This initiative is a direct response to the increasing issues of bots, impersonation, and romance scams that have plagued the dating app. As part of the new process, all new users in India will be required to submit a video selfie, which serves two main purposes: verifying that the person is real and ensuring that their face matches the images they have uploaded to their profile. The technology conducts a ‘liveness check’ to confirm the video is of an actual individual while also detecting if the same face is linked to multiple accounts. If the user’s face aligns with the profile pictures, they will receive a Photo Verified badge, signaling to potential matches that they are indeed authentic users. This feature was initially introduced to users in California in July and is now being rolled out to all new users in India. Yoel Roth, Senior Vice President of Trust & Safety at Match Group, emphasized the importance of this feature, stating, "Face Check is arriving in India at a time when online authenticity has never been more important. Safety features like Face Check add an important new tool to our arsenal against fake profiles, bots, and fraud, allowing people to focus on building meaningful connections." Moreover, Tinder shared insights from its Modern Dating Report, revealing that more than one in three users find verification a key factor when assessing potential matches on dating apps. The report further highlighted that Indian users prefer to meet in safe environments, with 50% opting for public places, 42% informing friends or family about their plans, and 40% refraining from disclosing personal information during initial meetings.
