Tinder launches new ‘Double Date’ functionality: How the new feature works

Tinder has unveiled an innovative new feature, dubbed 'Double Date', which allows users to team up with friends and connect with other couples on the platform. Currently available in the United States and select international locations, this feature is anticipated to have a wider global rollout by July. Designed to foster a more relaxed and social atmosphere in online dating, Tinder aims to enhance the dating experience by moving beyond traditional one-on-one interactions. This feature builds on previous initiatives like Matchmaker and Share My Date, which enabled friends and family to be part of a user’s dating journey. With Double Date, users can engage in a group dynamic that makes the process feel less pressured. To use this feature, individuals simply tap an icon in their main card stack and select up to three friends to join them. They can then swipe through other duos, with the potential for matches if either group expresses interest. Upon making a match, a group chat is initiated to help facilitate conversations and plan outings. During its testing phase, Double Date showed particular popularity among Gen Z users, with nearly 90% of participants being under the age of 29. This demographic not only constitutes over half of Tinder's global user base, but also favors a more collaborative and laid-back approach to dating. Initial statistics reveal that the feature has significantly boosted engagement levels. Women who used Double Date during the testing phase were three times more likely to express interest in a pair compared to individual profiles. Moreover, users participating in Double Date chats sent an average of 35% more messages than those engaged in standard one-on-one conversations. The feature also contributed to a slight increase in both new and returning users, with about 15% of participants being new to the app or recently reactivated. As online dating continues to evolve, Tinder's new offering reflects the changing preferences of younger users who are increasingly seeking interactive and unconventional methods to meet new partners.
