Tinder launches Face Check in India to fight bots and make online dating more authentic

Tinder has rolled out its innovative Face Check feature in India, aimed at identifying fake profiles and reducing the prevalence of bots on the platform. This launch represents a significant advancement in Tinder's ongoing mission to foster a safer and more reliable online dating experience. According to Yoel Roth, Senior Vice President of Trust & Safety at Match Group, the introduction of Face Check comes at a crucial time when ensuring authenticity in online interactions is paramount. "Safety features like Face Check equip us with vital tools to combat fraud, fake profiles, and bots, allowing users to concentrate on forging genuine connections," Roth stated. The Face Check process requires new users to take a brief video selfie, which is then cross-referenced with the images on their profile to verify their identity. Once validated, users earn a Photo Verified badge, which enhances trust among potential matches. This feature is part of Tinder's broader strategy to improve safety within its rapidly growing Indian user base. Recent data from Tinder's Modern Dating Report reveals a marked increase in Indian users prioritizing safety and authenticity in their dating experiences. Notably, one in three users finds profile verification to be a highly appealing aspect of dating apps. Additional statistics show that nearly half of the respondents prefer to meet their matches in public locations, while 42% share their meeting plans with friends or family beforehand. Furthermore, 37% of users opt for video calls prior to in-person meetings. Over recent years, Tinder has implemented more than 20 safety features in India, such as enhanced reporting tools, the "Are You Sure?" prompt, and ID verification, setting a higher standard for safety in online dating. With the launch of Face Check, Tinder aims to promote transparency and encourage users to focus on authentic connections instead of potential scams or impersonation.
