Jim Cramer says Tim Cook accomplished something 'almost impossible' as Apple CEO

On Tuesday, CNBC's Jim Cramer reflected on Tim Cook's impactful tenure as Apple's CEO, highlighting a feat many in the corporate world deem 'nearly impossible.' Cramer emphasized Cook's remarkable achievement in creating the most successful consumer-focused enterprise in history. Taking the helm after Steve Jobs, Cook faced skepticism about his ability to uphold and grow Apple's market dominance. However, his leadership has seen Apple's stock skyrocket by approximately 1,900% as of Monday's close, while also fostering a unique bond with customers, a rarity in today's business landscape. Cramer noted Cook's farewell letter, where he shared that he begins his days by reading heartfelt emails from customers. These messages often recount personal experiences of how Apple products, like the Apple Watch, have made significant impacts on their lives. Cook expressed, 'In every one of those emails, I feel the beating heart of our shared humanity,' which Cramer believes highlights Cook's genuine commitment to the end user. This consumer-centric philosophy, Cramer argues, is a key reason why Apple has thrived in an arena where many competitors struggle to maintain their lead. He contrasted consumer-focused businesses with enterprise-driven firms, pointing out that Wall Street has historically valued enterprise companies higher due to the predictability of their customer base. When Cook took over in 2011, Apple's stock traded at a price-to-earnings ratio in the low-to-mid teens. Today, that multiple has surged to around 30 times forward earnings, a valuation more typical of high-margin software companies rather than hardware manufacturers. Cramer believes this expanded valuation reflects Cook’s success in evolving Apple from a cyclical device company into a trusted brand with loyal customers and stable, recurring revenue streams, including iCloud and Apple Music subscriptions.
