Here's what Tim Cook thinks about AI replacing the iPhone

During a recent earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed concerns about the potential impact of artificial intelligence on the iPhone's market dominance. When questioned by Wamsi Moen, an analyst from Bank of America, about how Apple is preparing for a future where reliance on traditional screen-based devices might decrease due to AI advancements, Cook remained confident about the iPhone's enduring relevance. Cook highlighted the myriad of functions that the iPhone offers, from facilitating communication and enhancing gaming experiences to capturing photos and managing financial transactions. He stated, "It's difficult to see a world where the iPhone's not living in it." While he acknowledged the possibility of exploring new technologies, he emphasized that any emerging devices would likely serve as complementary tools rather than outright replacements. Despite Cook's optimistic outlook, there are concerns among analysts regarding Apple's pace in integrating AI features into its product lineup. Jacob Bourne from eMarketer noted that while the escalating AI competition may prompt Apple to consider more aggressive strategies, including acquisitions, the company’s commitment to maintaining high product quality over rapid development could preserve its competitive edge in the premium market, provided it invests adequately in AI research and development. Additionally, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives remarked on the company’s recent revenue performance, calling it a significant positive development. However, he urged Apple to refine its AI strategy, which he described as lacking, especially as other tech companies rapidly advance in the AI space.
