TikTok launches an ad-free subscription plan in the UK

In an exciting new development, TikTok has announced the launch of an ad-free subscription service in the United Kingdom, priced at £3.99 (approximately $5.44 USD) per month. This innovative offering will gradually roll out in the coming months and is exclusively available to users aged 18 and older. Subscribers to this plan will enjoy an uninterrupted experience, free from advertisements, while also ensuring that their data is not utilized for advertising purposes. This move appears to be influenced by the stringent General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the UK, which mandates that companies must obtain user consent before collecting personal data for advertising. Kris Boge, TikTok’s UK Managing Director, commented, "Choice for our community and growth for UK businesses go hand in hand on TikTok." He emphasized that while advertising on the platform has been instrumental for numerous British businesses in reaching new customers, boosting sales, and generating jobs, the new ad-free option enhances user control over their TikTok experience. TikTok initially began testing this ad-free subscription model earlier in 2023. As of now, it remains unclear whether the company has plans to extend this service to users in the United States.
