TikTok has made headlines with its announcement of new advertising formats designed to capture user attention right from the moment they open the app. One standout feature is the "Logo Takeover," which enables brands to display their logos alongside TikTok's on the launch page, emphasizing partnership and cultural relevance while broadening their reach. In addition to the Logo Takeover, TikTok is rolling out a "Prime Time" ad format, allowing advertisers to present a series of three ads to the same user within a 15-minute window during peak engagement times, such as live events. This format aims to enable brands to weave a continuous narrative during high-traffic periods, enhancing user engagement. Another new offering is the "Top Reach" format, which merges two existing ad placements: TopView and TopFeed. TopView is the very first ad users encounter upon opening the app, while TopFeed appears as the initial in-feed ad in the For You feed. By combining these placements, TikTok aims to maximize visibility and reach for brands throughout the day. Though these new formats promise to optimize brand exposure, they also raise concerns about user experience, as they may be perceived as disruptive. Users might find it off-putting to see an ad immediately upon opening the app or to encounter multiple ads from the same company in quick succession. However, TikTok views these innovations as an opportunity for brands to engage rather than interrupt. Khartoon Weiss, VP and GM of Global Business Solutions at TikTok, stated, "TikTok is where people go to see what everyone is talking about right now. Big cultural moments show up on TikTok first, but so do the everyday things people share with each other. Brands are not interrupting people—they are joining the conversation. Ads exist within the content that users love, whether it’s a creator video, a search result, or a live shopping moment, making them feel natural and useful." Furthermore, TikTok is expanding its advertising suite with the introduction of the "Pulse Mentions" tool, which positions brands alongside discussions that users are already having about them. The new "Pulse Tastemakers" feature will also enable brands to align their ads with a curated selection of eligible creators, enhancing their visibility in relevant conversations.
