One in three Europeans now uses TikTok, according to the Chinese tech giant

TikTok has reached a significant milestone, boasting over 200 million active monthly users across Europe, which equates to roughly one in three individuals on the continent. This impressive figure marks a notable increase from 175 million users just a year ago, reflecting the platform's growing popularity, particularly among younger audiences. The short video app, owned by the Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is now part of a global community that exceeds 1 billion monthly users. Despite facing various regulatory hurdles internationally, including scrutiny from the U.S. government, TikTok continues to thrive. In Europe, however, the journey has not been entirely smooth. The platform was hit with a hefty fine of 530 million euros (approximately $600 million) by its lead EU privacy regulator in May, underscoring the ongoing challenges it faces regarding data privacy and regulatory compliance. In a strategic move, ByteDance is reportedly planning an employee share buyback that could value the company at over $330 billion, signaling strong internal confidence despite external pressures.
