In a significant update, TikTok has enhanced its music-sharing capabilities by integrating YouTube Music into its platform. This addition allows users to easily save songs they discover while watching videos directly to their YouTube Music accounts. Initially launched in the U.S. and the U.K. in November 2023, TikTok's music feature originally supported popular services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. By February 2024, this capability had expanded to over 160 countries worldwide. The platform has since included other music services such as Deezer and SoundCloud, providing users with a variety of options. To utilize the new YouTube Music feature, users simply need to tap the “Add Song” button located beneath the video description. After selecting YouTube Music, first-time users can set their preferred music streaming service as the default for saving tracks. This preference can be updated anytime through the “Music” menu in the settings. Once added, the selected songs will automatically populate the TikTok Songs playlist on YouTube Music. Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, emphasized the positive impact of the “Add to Music App” feature, highlighting how it has led to hundreds of millions of track saves and subsequently billions of streams across various music platforms. With the collaboration with YouTube Music, TikTok aims to broaden its reach, allowing artists to connect with new audiences while offering fans a streamlined way to engage with the music they discover on the app.
