TikTok is evolving beyond its roots in user-generated content by introducing a groundbreaking feature that allows users to customize their exposure to AI-generated content within their 'For You' feed. This new setting is part of the app's 'Manage Topics' tool, giving users the power to dictate the frequency of AI content they encounter. In a recent blog announcement, TikTok highlighted that the 'Manage Topics' feature already enables users to manage their viewing preferences across various categories such as Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks. The newly added AI-generated content control is designed to enhance user experience by allowing them to fine-tune the diverse offerings in their feed without completely eliminating any type of content. This initiative comes at a time when other tech giants like OpenAI and Meta are also exploring AI-centric content feeds. Notably, Meta's recent launch of Vibes focuses on short AI-generated videos, while OpenAI introduced Sora, a platform dedicated to the creation and sharing of AI content. Since Sora's debut, TikTok users have increasingly utilized AI to create engaging visuals on a variety of topics, from history to popular culture. With the AI-generated content control, TikTok users can now easily adjust their settings to minimize or maximize AI content according to their preferences. To access this new feature, users can navigate to Settings, select 'Content Preferences,' and then click on 'Manage Topics.' There, a slider allows them to fine-tune their exposure to AI-generated content. Additionally, TikTok is enhancing its ability to identify AI-generated content through the introduction of a technology known as 'invisible watermarking.' While the platform already employs a cross-industry technology called Content Credentials from C2PA for labeling AI content, these labels can sometimes be removed when content is reuploaded elsewhere. The new invisible watermarks will provide an extra layer of protection, ensuring that TikTok can reliably identify AI-generated content. This initiative is part of TikTok's broader strategy to foster awareness and understanding of AI. The company has also announced a $2 million fund dedicated to AI literacy, partnering with organizations like Girls Who Code to create educational resources aimed at promoting AI safety and knowledge.
