F1 in Texas: Well, now the championship is exciting again

This past weekend, Formula 1 electrified fans with its third North American race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Unlike previous events in Montreal, Miami, and Las Vegas, the US Grand Prix takes place on a dedicated road course designed specifically for high-speed racing, having been established just over a decade ago. The excitement at COTA is palpable, with crowds swelling beyond the numbers that attended the inaugural race in 2012. While Miami and Las Vegas cater to a wealthier clientele, ticket prices at this Texas venue remain more accessible, making it an attractive option for racing enthusiasts willing to brave the sweltering heat and humidity. As the championship progresses, fans of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri find themselves in a state of anxiety. After leading the standings before the summer break, the young Australian's position has diminished due to a series of unfortunate results. His teammate, Lando Norris, has surged forward, alongside a resurgent Max Verstappen, who has been on a winning streak. Verstappen’s resurgence can be attributed to significant changes within the Red Bull team. Earlier this year, they replaced their team principal amidst controversy surrounding the previous leadership. New CEO and team principal Laurent Meikes, who transitioned from the junior Racing Bulls team, has had a notable impact, revitalizing Verstappen’s performance, which has included two wins and two second-place finishes in the four races leading up to the US Grand Prix. Meanwhile, teammate Yuki Tsunoda has also shown improved comfort in the car since Meikes took the helm.
