F1 in Abu Dhabi: And that’s the championship

The 2025 Formula 1 World Championship concluded in a spectacular fashion this past weekend in Abu Dhabi, marking the end of an era for the current generation of racing cars. After an intense season comprising 24 races, the championship was decided by a razor-thin margin of just two points, illustrating the high-stakes drama of the final showdown. Heading into the decisive race, McLaren's Lando Norris emerged as the frontrunner, having shown remarkable promise throughout the season. Despite a mid-season dip in performance at the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris reclaimed the championship lead from his teammate Oscar Piastri in Mexico last month. The season appeared to be a duel between McLaren's two talented drivers, reminiscent of the fierce rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg during their time at Mercedes. However, the dynamics shifted significantly as Red Bull Racing made a late-season surge. Under the leadership of new team principal Laurent Mekies, the team revitalized its performance, with four-time champion Max Verstappen closing in on the McLaren duo with a series of exceptional races. Interestingly, McLaren's insistence on maintaining a balanced competition between its drivers sometimes hindered their own prospects. The situation escalated dramatically after a double disqualification in Las Vegas, which allowed Verstappen to gain crucial ground. The penultimate race in Qatar further complicated matters. A well-timed safety car permitted all drivers, except for the leading McLarens, to pit for fresh tires, giving them an unexpected advantage. This left Norris and Piastri struggling to recover the time lost, setting the stage for a nail-biting finale in Abu Dhabi. Ultimately, what seemed like a routine championship for Norris transformed into a gripping contest that extended to the final race, showcasing the unpredictability and excitement that defines Formula 1 racing.
