Threads’ new ‘Dear Algo’ AI feature lets you personalize your feed

Threads, the social media platform owned by Meta, has launched an innovative AI-driven feature called 'Dear Algo' that enables users to customize their content feed. This announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a significant step in enhancing user experience on the platform. The 'Dear Algo' feature empowers users to specify what they want to see more or less of in their feeds by simply posting a request. For instance, a user might type, "Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts," which will adjust their feed accordingly for a period of three days. This interactive approach allows for a more personalized experience, catering to users’ evolving interests. However, the public nature of these requests might deter some users who prefer to keep their preferences private. Requests made through public posts can be viewed and even shared by others, which Meta believes fosters a sense of community and encourages the discovery of new topics and conversations. In a recent blog post, Meta emphasized the platform's role in staying updated with current happenings, noting that users often want their feeds to reflect their immediate interests, whether it's more content during a live event like an NBA game or less about a show they haven't watched yet. While Threads previously offered a straightforward 'Not Interested' button for user preferences, the 'Dear Algo' feature represents a more dynamic approach to personalization. This move could help Threads compete more effectively against rivals such as X and Bluesky, particularly in fostering a real-time engagement atmosphere that X has historically provided. Currently, 'Dear Algo' is available to users in the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K., with plans to expand to additional countries in the future. This rollout comes on the heels of a report from Similarweb indicating that Threads has recently surpassed X in daily mobile usage, boasting 141.5 million daily active users on mobile compared to X's 125 million as of January 7, 2026.
