Meta's Threads, a rising competitor to X, has introduced a new feature that allows users to manage Hidden Words independently from Instagram. This update enables users to filter out unwanted words, phrases, or emojis from their feeds, searches, profiles, and replies. Previously, Hidden Words were linked to Instagram, meaning any filters applied would affect content across both platforms. Now, with Threads' separate Hidden Words list, users can refine their viewing experience on Threads without altering their Instagram content. In addition to this separation, Threads has also rolled out a time limit option for filters. This allows users to temporarily block specific words, phrases, or emojis for a set period—up to 30 days. This feature is particularly useful for those who may want to avoid spoilers for a TV show or event but still anticipate returning to that content later. By snoozing certain filters, users can ensure a more personalized experience on the platform. This update follows closely on the heels of Threads testing a dedicated DM inbox that operates separately from Instagram's messaging system. Such enhancements suggest that Meta is aiming to establish Threads as a more autonomous service distinct from Instagram. As Threads continues to evolve in its competition with X, it has been consistently introducing new features each month. The latest updates include the ability to view posts from other users on the fediverse in a dedicated feed and to search for fediverse users directly within Threads. Additionally, the platform is experimenting with spoiler text and offering creators tools to share links and track engagement on their Threads profiles.
