Threads adds new features to Live Chats as it expands access

Meta's Threads platform is set to elevate the user experience with the introduction of new features for its Live Chats, alongside an expansion of access to a broader audience. Announced on Tuesday, the updates aim to enhance engagement and inclusivity in conversations. One notable addition is the support for translations, which facilitates global communication among users, breaking down language barriers in chats. Additionally, Threads is empowering its 'Community Champions'—the platform's most engaged users who play an active role in their communities—to initiate Live Chats. This move is intended to foster richer interactions and keep discussions lively. Hosts of Live Chats can now invite up to three co-hosts, enabling a more dynamic conversation flow. This functionality allows for a collaborative hosting experience, reminiscent of having guests in a talk show format. Furthermore, hosts have gained the ability to delete messages for all participants, enhancing the moderation capabilities within chats. Threads is also experimenting with ways to make host messages stand out visually during discussions. Initially, Threads faced challenges in establishing itself as a go-to platform for real-time interactions, struggling to compete with X due to the absence of essential features like searchable content, hashtags, and a chronological feed. However, the platform has since integrated these functionalities and is now setting itself apart with the unique Live Chats feature, which aims to create a more immediate and engaging environment for users. Since launching Live Chats, Threads has reported a surge in activity, with hundreds of chats occurring daily and thousands of participants joining. The latest features are a direct response to feedback from creators, who have expressed their needs for more interactive tools. Users in Live Chats can share messages, photos, videos, links, and express reactions with emojis. While a maximum of 150 participants can actively engage in the chat, additional users can still observe the conversation and participate in polls in a 'spectator' mode. In addition to these updates, Threads hinted at the upcoming support for desktop users and the introduction of pinned messages, both of which have been highly anticipated by the community. Earlier this month, Threads celebrated reaching 500 million monthly active users, nearly three years after its launch as a competitor to X. Over the past year, the platform has rolled out numerous features, including direct messaging and ghost posts, contributing to its impressive growth.
