Threads, Meta's answer to X, is pivoting its attention towards a unique audience: podcasters. In an announcement made on Tuesday, the platform unveiled its strategy to enhance discussions surrounding podcasts and assist creators in promoting their content. To kick off this initiative, Threads is introducing several new features designed specifically for podcasters. One notable change is the revamped appearance of podcast links within users' feeds. These links will now sport vibrant backgrounds and eye-catching image thumbnails, making them more prominent and easier to find. Additionally, creators will have a dedicated area in their profiles to showcase their podcast links, which are also designed to stand out. This enhancement aims to empower podcasters to effectively promote their shows and expand their listener base. In the upcoming year, Threads plans to roll out additional features tailored to the podcasting community, as revealed by a Meta spokesperson to TechCrunch. The company is keen on becoming the go-to platform for podcast discussions, recognizing the current fragmentation across social media platforms like Reddit, X, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as streaming services such as YouTube and Spotify. By tapping into the cultural significance of podcasts, Threads hopes to foster deeper discussions and enhance user engagement. Currently, Threads boasts over 400 million monthly active users and 150 million daily active users, although it lags behind X, which claims about 600 million monthly active users. By courting the podcast community, Threads aims to make significant strides in bridging this gap. However, it’s important to note that while the platform will facilitate conversations about podcasts, it does not plan to serve as a podcast distribution service. Instead, Threads intends to provide podcast hosts with valuable insights and analytics regarding audience interactions and discussions stemming from their shows. Moreover, the platform aims to introduce features that facilitate podcast discovery and foster connections between podcasters and their audiences through engaging conversations. This effort is not the first time Threads has targeted creators as a means to distinguish itself from competitors like X and Bluesky. Previously, it allowed creators to include up to five links in their profiles, promoting their online presence across various platforms. As Threads continues to evolve, users can anticipate more features geared toward enriching the podcast discussion experience in the near future.
