Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke has a new gig

After stepping down as CEO of GitHub a few months back, Thomas Dohmke is back in the tech scene with a new role. He has been appointed as a strategic advisor for Apiiro, a startup focused on securing applications and codebases for organizations. Dohmke's primary responsibility will involve helping Apiiro develop advanced security measures specifically designed for AI-generated software code. With the rise of AI coding tools producing vast amounts of code, there are growing concerns regarding the potential vulnerabilities these could introduce, making codebases an attractive target for hackers. He noted that many developers are now employing various AI coding agents, which may not fully align with the established policies and safeguards put in place by their organizations to ensure security. Apiiro aims to bridge this gap by integrating its technology with companies' code-management systems, thereby providing essential context for AI-driven code generation. Dohmke emphasized the significance of this integration, stating, "That's the important part." He highlighted Apiiro's capability to detect and automatically rectify issues within code, facilitating compliance with company guidelines without adding extra burden on developers. Apiiro has successfully secured over $100 million in funding from notable investors such as General Catalyst, Greylock, and Kleiner Perkins. Leading the company is CEO Idan Plotnik, who has a solid track record of launching and selling startups and has previously held a cybersecurity executive position at Microsoft. Having met Plotnik three years ago, Dohmke was impressed by his enthusiasm and the mission of Apiiro. Though he has numerous options for his next venture, his interest lies in the innovative work Apiiro is pursuing. As the use of AI in developing digital products continues to proliferate, he believes Apiiro's technology will become increasingly vital.
