In a fascinating twist, the most-translated Wikipedia article recently belonged to David Woodard, a figure not widely recognized by the public. His entry, available in 335 languages, outpaced well-known topics such as countries and popular terms. For context, Turkey leads the Wikipedia translation charts with entries in 332 languages, closely followed by the United States with 327 and Japan with 324. Among other notable entries, everyday words like 'dog' and 'cat' also feature prominently, with 'dog' translated into 275 languages and 'cat' in 273. Surprisingly, even historical figures like Jesus and Adolf Hitler have their own extensive entries, with translations in 274 and 242 languages, respectively. Yet, Woodard's prominence came from a rather controversial piece he composed in 2001. Woodard is known for creating a 'prequiem' for Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber who infamously took the lives of 168 people. This unique composition was intended to be performed at a church near the site of McVeigh's execution, with the aim of broadcasting it so that McVeigh could hear it. According to the LA Times, Woodard expressed that his hope was to help McVeigh's soul find peace. He drew a striking comparison, suggesting that McVeigh, though 'nearly universally despised' at the time of his execution, was akin to Jesus Christ in terms of being misunderstood.
