Do you find yourself dimming your screen and checking for onlookers before accessing ChatGPT at your desk? Or perhaps you sneak away to a private space for your AI-related inquiries? If you relate to these behaviors, you might be classified as an "AI creeper"—someone who utilizes artificial intelligence tools while keeping it under wraps from colleagues. You're certainly not alone in this sentiment. A recent survey conducted by the AI startup Anthropic, which included responses from 1,250 professionals, reveals intriguing insights. While a substantial 86% of participants acknowledged that AI enhances their productivity, and 65% expressed satisfaction with its contributions to their work, a notable 69% reported a fear of social stigma associated with AI usage in the workplace. One participant recounted an interaction where a colleague voiced disdain for AI, leaving them silent, aware of the mixed feelings surrounding the technology. Many individuals have chosen not to disclose their AI-driven processes, reflecting a broader concern about acceptance. Particular sectors appear to experience heightened scrutiny regarding AI adoption. Among 125 surveyed creative professionals, an impressive 97% affirmed that AI saves them time, with 68% stating it improves the quality of their work. Nevertheless, a significant 70% of these creatives noted they feel judged by their peers for incorporating AI into their workflows. In light of these findings, Business Insider is delving into the phenomenon of "AI creeping." We invite you to share your experiences and insights through our survey to better understand the dynamics of AI usage in professional environments.
