Lemkin speculated that these departures might indicate the pressures of competing in the AI sector. He noted that as new players enter the field, the once relaxed research culture at Google DeepMind may feel the strain, as the company faces demands to produce results and integrate into its broader ecosystem. Meanwhile, companies like Anthropic and OpenAI seem to be creating environments that allow researchers to concentrate on pivotal AI challenges.
